Working together
How is working with you different from hiring a development agency?
Agencies optimize for output volume. I optimize for architecture clarity and decision quality. The work is not about producing more features faster. It is about making sure the system structure, automation design, and technical direction actually support the business as it grows. When implementation happens, it happens with clearer direction and less reversal risk.
What does "architecture first" actually mean in practice?
It means understanding system structure, workflow design, and integration patterns before committing to tools, vendors, or implementation schedules. Most technical debt comes from skipping this step. Architecture first means the team knows why the system is shaped the way it is, not just what got built.
When is the right time to bring in an architect?
When system decisions are becoming consequential and the cost of getting them wrong is rising. Common signals: AI integration feels harder than it should, automation creates supervision overhead instead of reducing work, delivery speed is slowing as the product grows, or technical decisions are being made without clear structural thinking.
Do you work with our existing engineering team?
Yes. Most engagements are designed to work alongside existing teams, not replace them. The value is clearer architecture direction, better decision support, and reduced risk. The team keeps ownership of implementation with stronger structural guidance.
Services and scope
What deliverables do I actually get?
Clear system models, documented architecture decisions, implementation guidance, and actionable roadmaps. Not slide decks that sit in a folder. The work is designed to be usable by leadership and engineering teams immediately.
Do you do implementation, or only strategy and architecture?
Both. Many engagements begin with strategy and architecture work, and extend into implementation advisory or delivery oversight. Some projects involve hands-on design and build alongside the client team.
Can you help us decide whether to build, buy, or partner?
Yes. Build vs. buy decisions are architecture decisions. The right answer depends on system boundaries, integration complexity, team capabilities, and long-term maintainability. The work includes clear analysis of these tradeoffs with business consequence in mind.
How is AI work different from traditional systems architecture?
AI systems require design decisions that traditional architecture does not: where the model sits in the process, input quality controls, confidence thresholds, human review touchpoints, and feedback loops. The architecture thinking is similar; the operational design questions are different.
Pricing and structure
How is pricing structured?
Most engagements are fixed-fee against a defined scope. This creates clarity for both sides and avoids billing uncertainty. Ongoing retainer and fractional arrangements are structured as a monthly or quarterly commitment.
Is a discovery call free?
Yes. The initial strategy call is focused on understanding your challenge and establishing whether there is a strong fit. There is no charge for that conversation.
What happens after the architecture work is done?
That depends on what the situation needs. Some engagements end with clear direction and the team executes independently. Others extend into implementation guidance, ongoing advisory, or longer-term fractional support. The structure follows the problem, not a preset package.
